Ancient traditions of baby wearing are catching on like gangbusters. Parents are learning that the age old tradition of providing the safety and security a baby needs by being held doesn’t need to interrupt their day or become an inconvenience. In fact baby wearing provides both parents and baby everything they need to develop a strong and secure bond.

Baby Wearing Defined

So what exactly is baby wearing? It is exactly what it sounds like – placing your baby in a sling or a carrier and wearing them. The concept of baby wearing is part of the attachment parenting philosophy which believes a strong emotional bond with parents during childhood means better relationships with others in adulthood.

Benefits of Baby Wearing

Babies who are worn cry less. Babies like to be held we know this to be true in our hearts, and its been proven. In 1986, a team of pediatricians in Montreal reported on a study of ninety-nine mother-infant pairs. The study concluded that babies that are worn cry 43% less than non-worn babies.

The world is an open book. Babies who are worn learn more about the world at a younger age. When they feel safe and secure being held close to their parents, they feel more at ease pay attention to the world around them.

Parents have their hands free. Baby wearing involves literally placing the baby in a sling or carrier and wearing them. Its quite convenient because your hands are free to go about your daily business. You can cook, clean, email, shop, play with your other children, all the things you would normally do only now you have a baby strapped to your front.

Babies are less likely to develop a flat spot on their skull. The pediatric association recommends placing them on their back to prevent SIDS; however this position often causes a flat spot on the back of their soft skulls. Babies, who are worn, are less likely to develop this flat spot because they’re sleeping in the comfort and safety of your sling or carrier.

Baby wearing helps combat postpartum depression. When babies are held closely and often a mother’s progesterone levels increase. This increase in hormones helps mother’s form a stronger bond with their babies. This strong bond and increase in hormone levels are exactly what a mother needs to help combat the occurrence of postpartum depression.

Baby wearing moms are afforded private and comfortable breastfeeding whenever and wherever Babies often need to be fed in the most inconvenient of times and places. A baby carrier or sling enables the mother to feed their baby with all the comfort and privacy they need. Additionally, the job can be accomplished hands free.

Not all baby wearers are created equal. Make sure the baby carrier or sling you invest in is a safe one which allows for proper support and positioning. Used correctly a baby wearer provides busy parents the ability to both bond with their baby as well as get things done and babies grow up feeling safe and secure.

It’s a good idea to begin planning for your baby’s crib bedding even before your baby is born. To start with, don’t be misled by the argument that you cant plan for babys crib bedding without knowing if its going to be a girl or a boy. Its true parents want different patterns, colours and designs for girl and boy babies. Please dont worry about this because there are many bedding choices and even nursery color options available in the market which are fine for both girls and boys.

It is easy for parents ” especially those choosing cot bedding for the first time ” to worry about things that are of lesser importance than vital ones. Bear in mind that while we adults spend an average of eight hours per day, i.e. twenty-four hours, in bed, baby spends almost all of the twenty-four hours in bed!

The first thing to consider is Safety. We tend to forget the simple fact that baby can’t say if it feels uncomfortable. We parents must think ahead and make sure the baby bedding is safe from all aspects. For instance, it isn’t true that very soft beds are most comfortable for baby. The bedding should be slightly firm. Also, desist from piling the crib with cuddly toys and teddy bears and pillows. Adults may find them colorful and lovely but not baby. These can turn into hazards because baby could accidentally suffocate. Keep the cot clear of all pillows and soft toys!

Tucking baby into a heavy blanket to keep cold draughts away is equally foolish. The normal movement of a baby can bring such blankets over its face and cause baby to over heat.

Next, plan to keep your babys nursery stocked with bedding essentials. Its hard to talk exact numbers needed; But blankets and crib sheets sometimes have to be changed several times a day. Cotton sheets are best and I’ve already mentioned about using light blankets. A tip: check the thread count of the crib sheets you buy.

Our advice is to avoid plastic altogether including for baby comforters. Non-biodegradable material is a strict no-no for babys crib. These may possibly turn out to be allergic for babys delicate skin. Thats why in tropical countries babies always only wear cotton clothes. Our climate doesnt allow this so the next best thing is to use cotton as crib bedding.

Last but by no means the least, you must ensure the Durability of babys crib bedding. As you know, babys going to spend most of his time in bed. Apart from babys crib, plan his nursery well.

Lets get back once more to babys crib. To recap, lets picture baby lying comfortably on a soft but firm mattress covered with cotton crib sheet and tucked into a light yet warm blanket of pretty design ” not a drab pastel uni-color please! Babies don’t need a pillow and shouldn’t have one until they are over 12 months old. Similarly, babys crib wont be laden with soft toys of various shapes, sizes, and colors.

All done, you can be reassured that darling baby is enjoying a safe slumber.

The life of your baby is one of the things you treasure most dearly.

If you could find a way to monitor your baby 24 hours a day, surely you would.

Here is some good news for you.

With a Wireless Baby Monitor, you can watch your baby at all times.

Baby Monitors are electronic devices that allow you to monitor your baby via audio or video, even when you are not in the room with your child.

There are several varieties of units available to monitor your baby, such as an analog version, a digital version and a digital wireless version.

There are strong and weak points when comparing the different monitor types, however, the digital wireless unit ranks the highest when it comes to value for the money.

This version costs more than the others, but they have just about every type of advance features that you can imagine.

A digital wireless monitor not only keeps you aware of your child’s activities, it allows you to move freely throughout your home while doing so.

In the morning and afternoon, you can complete your household duties, such as cooking and cleaning, with piece of mind.

During the evening, you can stay alert to any problems your infant may have while resting.

Because of the digital technology incorporated into the unit, concerns about interference from frequency clash are significantly reduced.

As far as price is concerned, a digital wireless unit is the most expensive monitor, usually priced around $250, while the analog units are the cheapest at about $50.

If safety and protection for your infant are important to you, then I suggest that you choose a digital wireless baby monitor.

by Chris Channing

Having a baby boy is a very rewarding experience, one that is one of a kind to both parents and their immediate family. With all the planning required for the baby, there is also the prospect of having to name the baby boy. There are many choices to choose from, but the process isn’t impossible as it would seem.

Studies show that most baby boy names will be thought of personal experiences- meaning that while suggestions from other sources are nice, but are less likely to make an impact on both parents. Each parent will have a certain name that each has clung to over the years, whether from good experiences or bad, and will initially suggest this name. As they say, instinct is sometimes the best choice.

There are publications that can help in the process, both online and offline. Baby name books are available at most department stores and book stores. The benefit of buying a book is that all the information can be obtained about a name- such as the origin, common use, and so on instantly. There are free Internet resources that do the same thing, but finding information can sometimes pose a problem.

Some parents like to research a baby name to the point of figuring out what type of impact a name could have on the baby’s personality. Some say that some names will influence a certain personality. Others say it is an unproven science, but it is good to check into the situation by going online or finding publications that talk about personality implications of baby names.

Baby boy names shouldn’t be limited by ethnicity or location. Being diverse and straying away from the common “John” or “Tom” can make one’s son truly unique and unlike others in the community. Some even borrow names that are sometimes associated with girl names- such as “Alex” or “Sam.” Either way, it’s nice to get away from the normal and think of something truly creative.

Ultimately, the right name is going to be found though a joint operation between both parents. Baby books, online resources, and philosophies are all helpful in choosing a name- but in the end the decision comes down to the mother and father and what their own personal experiences have told them to name the baby. Just try to make it a fun positive experience, and not a negative one that spurs arguments over what to name a baby boy.

Final Thoughts

A new baby boy is quite a blessing- one that takes a lot of planning. Picking a name may seem like a rather unimportant issue compared to all the planning needed for the baby, but don’t procrastinate deciding on a baby name to avoid complications later on down the road.
