One of the most stressful things that parents have to deal with, may in fact be dealing with a sick child. You feel like your hands are tied and that there is really not much you can do for them except what the doctor’s tell you, and sometimes that can be extremely frustrating. Here are some of the rules that I have found in dealing with a child who has suddenly become ill or injured and they really have helped. Obviously if it is a life or death crisis then get to the ER as quickly as you can, or call 911.

If it is not a life or death crisis then take a second to breathe and think. Most of the time our initial reaction to our child becoming ill or injured is to rush into action. This is fine if you are going to stop them from bleeding, or start CPR to keep them breathing, however when your child is ill you must think clearly. Many times a watch and wait approach is the best one. Initially when a child becomes sick or injured, they may react as if they are dying, however, this will usually calm down within a few minutes and then just monitor them closely. Make note of their behaviors, eating, sleeping, and breathing. These will more than likely clue you in to whether or not you need to get them to a doctor.

If you feel like something is wrong but you just don’t know what it is, then by all means trust your instincts and seek medical attention as soon as possible. Very rarely are parental instincts wrong.

The head is a part of the body that tends to bleed a lot, so head injuries are likely to bleed freely for a few minutes before they stop. If the child is vomiting, it is important to keep him hydrated, so give him plenty of liquids, sippable through a straw if possible. Ginger ale can be an effective drink because of the calming effects on the stomach that the ginger provides.

Whenever your child gets sick, just keep your head clear and think about the situation. If you keep these things in mind, then you’ll be able to help the situation along more effectively while avoiding any unnecessary panic that can accompany having a sick or injured child.

We teach our kids early on the importance of team sports in their lives. By the age of 5 most children a involved in a team sport or group activity. Mom, dad, I am sure you proudly recall watching your first born playing soccer at the age of 5. The rules are simple. Everyone plays and nobody loses. Funny how the game always seems to end in a tie. Your little guy chases the ball mixed into a cluster with the other children. It’s wild kicking in that cloud of kids. Thank goodness for shin guards! With time and practice your child continues to improve and quickly develops some real athletic talent.

His atletic career continues to grow. He dabbles in soccer, basketball, baseball and football until he finds the one sport he really excels in. It is then that you see his passion for the game and his true desire to win. You pay for the private instuction and make the commitment to practice and play 5 days a week or more.

As a family, you commit to raise the money to make your child’s “World Series” deam a reality. You sell hotdogs, wash cars, and seek sponsors. Your friends , family and community rally around you, contributing to the cause. You have raised the funds…the team will have their opportunity to play.

Prior to arriving at the tournment, your child’s coach informs you that the tournment allows teams to pick up “stud” players. To stay competitive with the other teams your coach feels he must do the same. The result… Your child and many of his teammates sit on the bench.

What message do we send to our children? “Thanks for all your hardwork this season, but have a seat. You’re not good enough to play these kids”. Isn’t it your child and his teammates played hard to make it to this level? I say come as a team, play as a team, leave as a team!

by Jordan FeRoss

For many college students, health insurance in Texas can seem unattainable. Because of the difficulty in getting insurance, students choose to go without it rather than commit to finding a plan they can afford. They also think they are young and invincible and will be healthy forever. But no one knows when or if they will become ill or get injured in the future. And, without insurance, students risk destroying their financial lives with medical debt or worse, not getting the life-saving treatment they need.

But the situation is not hopeless and there are several things college students can do to afford their health insurance in Texas:

Healthy college students are allowed by law to remain on their parents’ health insurance in Texas until they turn 25. Students with physical or mental disabilities can stay on even longer. This is the most affordable way for college students to get insurance coverage and they can continue this coverage as long as they are attending classes full-time and meet the age requirements. It is a good idea to check local and state laws if you are going away to college, especially if your parents’ health insurance coverage is with an HMO.

If a college student purchased health insurance in Texas through their employer, but are not employed there anymore they may be entitled to buy COBRA. COBRA insurance is more expensive, but it is certainly better than going without insurance while going away to college. Especially since some colleges won’t even let students attend without insurance to help reduce their liability in the event of an accident on campus.

If your parents’ health insurance in Texas won’t work for you in the geographic area of your school, you can still choose an HMO with regional coverage to make sure you will get to see in-network doctors. A regional HMO may mean going a bit out of your way to see a doctor who participates in the plan. Some HMO companies will make exceptions for college students and allow them to visit doctors outside their network while they are students but you will need to check if the HMO you are considering will do this to avoid costly out-of-pocket expenses for leaving the network. Even if the HMO lets you leave your network, you may still be penalized with extra fees so read everything carefully.

Quite a few colleges and universities have their health insurance plans in Texas. On top of that, it may be necessary to have complete health coverage, especially if the student will be attending school out of the country on an exchange program. Many colleges and universities have student health insurance plans in Texas. Usually, theses colleges utilize insurance carriers from the private sector.

For health insurance in Texas, there are different kinds of health insurance policies available for students. The best choice for them would be to have a single medical policy that goes across the board. If you are a student, you won’t need a lot of options. However, if some of the options you need are not there, please ask the health insurance carrier.

For most students, the best best for protection against serious illness or injury is being added (or remaining) on your parents’ health insurance in Texas.

by Belinda Gable

While it may not have occurred to many people, leading a disorganized life can and does often result in one being overweight. The majority who lack organization in their daily lives tend to spend most of their time rushing about and this includes eating. Of course, it stands to reason that those who eat to fast also often end up eating too much.

Another tell tale sign of an unorganized life is untidiness or mess, both at the work place and at home. Here again, having a lot of mess laying about is bound to cause stress, and stress in turn often leads to overeating. As we can see, having a well organized lifestyle optimizes your chances for a happy and healthier life.

It’s an undeniable fact that stress is a common cause of weight problems as the vast majority of people tend to eat whenever they become stressed.

Even health conscious people slip up from time to time and have to resort to instant meals or something similar because they have run out of supplies, but if your life is disorganized, you’ll find this happens to you far more frequently than it should. As a result, you find yourself eating junk foods more often than you eat wholesome foods.

Being organized will also help you to eat at regular times throughout the day and by being regular with your eating it will help you to maintain more consistent blood sugar levels that will reduce the chance of you getting into low blood sugar and over eating to compensate.

The last thing you need is to arrive at mealtime only to find you don’t have any healthy foods in store, thus causing you to slap something together which has very little, if any, nutrition so planning ahead is essential.

By being organized and having a shopping list where you have determined in advance the right foods for your diet you will be less likely to buy food that you shouldn’t be buying when you go to the supermarket.

Organization is one of the keys to success in following any weight loss program. It also helps to reduce the amount of time that you have to think about food and think about losing weight and when that doesn’t become such a big focus in your life you are more likely to succeed.

by Steve Esquire

Everyone wants to look younger. Since the beginning of time, man has searched for the fountain of youth. Technology has always been applied to counter the forces of aging. Various treatments have been developed to help the skin to retain moisture and stay healthy. There have been creams and elixirs all promising younger looking skin or removal of wrinkles. Many have merit and some out just outright scams preying on the hope of people to stay young. Skin is certainly the main focus, but delve a little deeper and you will find that just below the skin are muscles and tissues which need help too. Many of the best massage chair brands are now integrating massage therapies to help your body to better retain its youth and vitality.

Aging occurs at many levels within the body. Some are biological and some are environmental. Science is furiously studying the biological causes and at some point may have some breakthroughs. Environmentally aging is influenced by the levels of stress and your commitment to exercise. Stress puts the body on high alert. The body is ready for action with the muscles tense and the major organs prepared to support the body. Exercise or more appropriately the lack of exercise makes the body less able to withstand the forces of nature put upon us. Both of these factors start to show the wear and tear on the body via the skin.

The modern world comes at a high price. This price is stress. Everyone is under more stress. There is greater competition for everything and we have to deal with it. What happens when the body is put under stress? Our natural instinct is the fight or flight reaction. Our metabolism increases as the hands and feet are mobilized for action. Our major organs are put in a supporting role to help protect the body and get it ready for action. However, most stress we encounter is not from seeing a lion, but instead is mental pressure. This mental pressure causes the same reaction, but does not have the same release, since no real physical action is taken. This type of stress builds up toxic chemicals in the body without a way to release them out.

OK, we get to the meeting, we save the day and all is good and right in the world. Well, almost. What about the accumulated stress in our bodies? That really didn’t go anywhere did it? No it is still in our bodies. How do we get that out? Massage therapy is an effective technique to help flush out toxins. But massage therapy also helps reduce stress. Massage therapies such as shiatsu, Swedish and others have been shown to reduce stress, increase awareness and induce relaxation. These treatments are all available in the best massage chair brands today. I certainly age slower when I am relaxed then when I am stressed!

What about the whole body anti aging thing. Let us take a look at reflexology massage. This therapy helps to reverse the process of stress. I guess we should call is anti stress. Reflexology works by stimulating trigger points in the feet to help calm and relax the major organs. Reflexology charts have been developed showing parts of the feet and their corresponding organ that they connect with. By massaging these points, the feet send signals to calm the organs. Remember, when you were under stress, the organs send signals to the feet and hands to be ready. While the massage chair stimulates your trigger points in your feet, it is also performing a full body massage. Now your body and mind begin to relax.

Unfortunately stress is ongoing and continuous. It has become a part of modern life. To counteract this ongoing barrage of stress, your anti aging treatment must also be ongoing. Regular and frequent massage therapy is just such a treatment. The removal of the waste products of stress is an important factor in keeping the body healthy and to fight the ongoing battle with the aging process. To receive ongoing massage therapy, massage chairs are the most convenient and economical method. They offer in home convenience and can be used at any time. Keep yourself healthy and retain your youthful look with a massage chair recliner.
