by Peter Bertonich

There seems to be an essential skill that isn’t taught to our kids much these days. Cooking. Who teaches their kids to cook now? Well you should, and the best place to start is with homemade candy.

If you start teaching your kids to cook something they don’t like they probably won’t develop a love of cooking. But if you start the kids out cooking homemade cakes or homemade candy you can just about guarantee that the kids will love it, and want to do more.

Last night I was doing some cooking with my kids who are 11 and 8. They had a great time and of course they got to lick out the bowl too. Kids get so much enjoyment from cooking something that is simple to cook and great to eat. And homemade candy is always great to eat.

And once kids learn to cook they have a skill for life. And they graduate pretty fast from homemade candy onto other stuff.

There’s a few simple things to remember, whether they’re cooking homemade candy or anything else. Allow plenty of time, expect mess, start with a simple recipe and get them started on the simple tasks.

And of course you’ve got to keep them away from heat, so avoid candy, for example, that requires a syrup. Syrup is heated to a high temperature so kids shouldn’t be stirring it, for example. No syrup burns.

And there’s just some stunning wonderful homemade candy recipes for kids too. I’ve mentioned syrup, it’s also a little difficult to do too, as you have to get the temparature just right, so steer clear of syrup and start with some of the more basic homemade candy recipes like truffles or pralines.

But when you’ve got the kids confident at their cooking they can try so many different candy recipes. I just love toffee, especially the chewy type of toffee, how about truffles, or nougat. Yumm.

There you go I’m hungry now.

Seriously though, teaching the kids to cook candy gets them on the road to cooking for life, and they learn to love to cook anything with time.

So grab some great homemade candy recipes, there’s lots on my website. And it’s cheaper and makes better candy than the store bought candy. Get the kids involved, they’ll thank you for it when they get older.

When it comes to buying a gift for a baby shower, baby clothes are always a good choice. Even when you don’t know the sex of the baby, getting a selection of cute gender neutral pajamas and onesies will help the mom and dad to be have everything that they need for their new addition to their family.

A new parent is literally swamped with things that they must do and buy for their new baby. The nursery has to be prepared, bottles must be bought and there are more accessories that go with a baby than you will find in the accessory department of your favorite clothing store. The wardrobe is one area for concern as new parents struggle to get everything ready for the new baby. Baby clothes can help them build up a wardrobe for their little bundle of joy and you can help with that.

You might want to consider buying baby clothes in various sizes as well. This is the thoughtful way to make your gift last just a little bit longer. Babies grow out of their clothes at breakneck speeds and if you can have something for the next couple of sizes for the parents to have on hand, you will be giving them a nice helping hand.

Going through all of the baby clothes in the store is also a fun experience. There are so many cute styles of clothing in the stores for babies that you will spend hours just browsing through the clothes finding the perfect outfits to give for your baby shower gift. When you know whether you are shopping for a boy or girl, it can be even more fun. You will get to go through all of the dainty and pretty girl dresses or the rough and tumble boy clothes. Why not pick up a special outfit for the new baby that mom and dad can use for the many outings that they will be bringing their baby to when they are home from the hospital.

Typically shoes are not a good idea for your baby shower gift. Parents generally like to buy those on their own because a first pair of shoes is pretty important for the child.

Your choice of baby clothes will be appreciated a great deal. There is a big financial burden to new parents and having some extra clothes for their new baby can take some of that burden off of their shoulders. Baby clothes are a way to give new parents a practical gift that is thoughtful and adorable at the same time.

Ancient traditions of baby wearing are catching on like gangbusters. Parents are learning that the age old tradition of providing the safety and security a baby needs by being held doesn’t need to interrupt their day or become an inconvenience. In fact baby wearing provides both parents and baby everything they need to develop a strong and secure bond.

Baby Wearing Defined

So what exactly is baby wearing? It is exactly what it sounds like – placing your baby in a sling or a carrier and wearing them. The concept of baby wearing is part of the attachment parenting philosophy which believes a strong emotional bond with parents during childhood means better relationships with others in adulthood.

Benefits of Baby Wearing

Babies who are worn cry less. Babies like to be held we know this to be true in our hearts, and its been proven. In 1986, a team of pediatricians in Montreal reported on a study of ninety-nine mother-infant pairs. The study concluded that babies that are worn cry 43% less than non-worn babies.

The world is an open book. Babies who are worn learn more about the world at a younger age. When they feel safe and secure being held close to their parents, they feel more at ease pay attention to the world around them.

Parents have their hands free. Baby wearing involves literally placing the baby in a sling or carrier and wearing them. Its quite convenient because your hands are free to go about your daily business. You can cook, clean, email, shop, play with your other children, all the things you would normally do only now you have a baby strapped to your front.

Babies are less likely to develop a flat spot on their skull. The pediatric association recommends placing them on their back to prevent SIDS; however this position often causes a flat spot on the back of their soft skulls. Babies, who are worn, are less likely to develop this flat spot because they’re sleeping in the comfort and safety of your sling or carrier.

Baby wearing helps combat postpartum depression. When babies are held closely and often a mother’s progesterone levels increase. This increase in hormones helps mother’s form a stronger bond with their babies. This strong bond and increase in hormone levels are exactly what a mother needs to help combat the occurrence of postpartum depression.

Baby wearing moms are afforded private and comfortable breastfeeding whenever and wherever Babies often need to be fed in the most inconvenient of times and places. A baby carrier or sling enables the mother to feed their baby with all the comfort and privacy they need. Additionally, the job can be accomplished hands free.

Not all baby wearers are created equal. Make sure the baby carrier or sling you invest in is a safe one which allows for proper support and positioning. Used correctly a baby wearer provides busy parents the ability to both bond with their baby as well as get things done and babies grow up feeling safe and secure.

by Heather Banks

Parenting is one of the biggest life decisions ever made and raising children is the second step to a life long series of changes. When choosing the right parenting style for child rearing, parents often look to their parents and to how they were raised in order to create their own parenting style. But, for some, a total deviation fro what they know and understand feels right. This deviation from the norm is at the heart of raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style.

Many believe that raising children mean being there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to guide them n every decision, tell them the answer to every question and virtually hold their hands through the beginning years of life. But, these actions take more away from the child than they give to them. By choosing the art of raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style, the parent gives the act of learning back to the child.

No bottle weaning. When choosing the path of raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style, there will be no weaning from the bottle. Instead, the parent will introduce options to the baby and teach them how to use these options with the sole intention of the child choosing one of the options over the bottle. A straw is the perfect choice in this case. Children love straws and once they learn how to use them, they will no longer want to deal with that slow moving bottle.

Leave potty training to baby. Potty training can mean stress for child and stress for mom and dad. Instead of fighting with the potty, embrace that act when raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style. Open the door to the bathroom and allow your child to see you use the restroom and the actions that are involved in using the potty over and over again. They will soon choose to use the potty too.

Leave decision to the child. Children have the innate ability to want to be like their parents. When raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style, parents are trying to teach their children to be only like themselves. This includes making all decisions on their own. A parent can surely educate the child while raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style, but the final decision making needs to be the child’s choice.

Mistakes are alright too. Mistakes are gong to happen and raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style does not change that. Children who make mistakes will learn from those mistakes and that is how they grow into the adults they once become.

To choose raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style means to choose the ideals that physical parenting is less likely to help a child than parenting through guidance. The guidance allowed with raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style will show the child the right paths of life and growth.

Many parents find choosing the more traditional parenting styles more comfortable and almost ingrained in their souls. But, for the parent who chooses raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style, the uncomfortability of the new parenting style is well worth the independent outcome.

by Mirca Bauer

People who live in a same residence as good as routinely have been associated to any alternative by blood, marriage, or embracing a cause have been called a family. To most a family section consists of dual adults of conflicting sex who have been associated to any alternative in a socially excusable relationship.

In a little tools of Africa there have been family groups with a single womanlike who has some-more than a single husband. Thus a make up of a family section is really most contingent upon a culture. Most of cultures in this universe foster family life. A family ties have been means to figure a celebrity of a person, so they have been really important. Keeping this significance in view, all cultures foster it. A participation of a family section in a nation confirms that there will be assent as good as assent in a country.

These blood ties are important as they are helpful in shaping a personality. Although people understand the importance of a family unit, the trend of living as a family is decreasing. In many parts of the world people leave their parents and start living separately as soon as they complete their education and are able to earn their own living. In one sense this trend is very positive as everyone is responsible for his or herself. People earn for themselves and as a result, the number of dependents is less in such countries. The obvious result is that the economy of the country is stable. But the loosening ties have their disadvantages as well. Due to the lack of these ties there is a disruption in the society. We do not experience that peace all around the globe today as it existed few decades back. The reason is that the family unit is becoming less important to many people.

The decrease in the life span of a family unit is because of the fact that kids get their education and leave their parents to find work, and spouses lead their own life. There are many other reasons as well. There are many broken families now because the divorce rate is on a rise. The reason for this may be the unstable economic conditions or, a higher number of kids than a couple can afford to have.

For example, there have been most deceptive young kids innate any year. Right away as these kids have been innate out of nuptials there have been not most people who accept them. An outrageous commission of such kids have been put for adoption. This is something you contingency discourage. Relatives should be obliged sufficient if they wish to have kids even if out of wedlock. If they don’t wish that, contraceptives have been regularly there.

A people who have been firm to any alternative by red blood ties in this incident do not give a alternative chairman sufficient space to breathe. This creates suffocation for people as good as strength of a family section starts disintegrating. Family units have been still there though they have altered their figure according to a benefaction day requirements.

Another idea is to make adorable, little baby-themed cupcakes. Buy cake mix and add the other ingredients as directed on the box. Bake in cake cups and decorate with frosting and sprinkles. A couple of drops of food coloring can be added to plain, white frosting to create light, pastel colors. Heart-shaped cupcakes stand out a bit more and look beautiful, but the size and shape of the cupcakes are entirely up to you.

The next recipe is a delicious and colorful salad recipe. This recipe is nutritious yet very appetizing, and will definitely be loved by all the ladies! In one or two large salad bowls, mix 2 to 4 bags of spring mix lettuce (depending on the size of your shower and the number of guests), 1 to two small packages of baby tomatoes, 1 to 2 cups of diced cucumber, ” to 1 cup of shredded carrots, 1 to 2 cans of canned, sweetened tangerine slices, ” to 1 cup of raisins, and ” to 1 cup of caramelized pecans. Serve chilled with honey mustard or a sweet style vinaigrette.

An amazing fruit salad, popular in parts of Latin America is made using strawberries, mango, melon, sliced bananas, grapes, sliced oranges, sliced apple, and sliced pear. You can adjust the types and variety of fruits to fit your taste. Mix all the fruit pieces in a large decorative bowl and generously drizzle with sweetened condensed milk. Add caramelized almonds if desired.

A fabulous spinach dip that can be served with both corn chips and crackers calls for 1 ” cups of real mayo (you can use light mayo if preferred), ” cup of softened cream cheese, 1 package of frozen spinach (cooked and drained), ” cup chopped green onion, ” teaspoon of salt, ” teaspoon of pepper, and parsley to taste. Combine all ingredients and serve warm. If desired, you can melt Mozzarella or Parmesan cheese over the dip before serving. Provide an assortment of crackers and crunchy corn chips to eat the spinach dip with.

These easy to follow, pre-made recipes will take up almost none of your time, and are guaranteed to bring compliments!

Some of the most important and memorable experiences of a baby shower are the baby-themed games that are characteristic of the American baby shower. Games and activities make up a big part of the fun and excitement in the celebration that will welcome your new coming baby into the world. When it comes to picking the right games for your shower, be sure to center your activities on the overall theme of the party. Consider the number of guests that have been invited, your budget, and the location of the baby shower, in order to choose the games that will be best suited for your event. Creating a combination of traditional, timeless games and new, original activities is always a good way to go to add festivity to the segment of the shower whereby Mom opens up all the newborn gifts.

Games can be classic and general, or more specific and tied to your theme. One of the most universal baby shower games that everyone seems to love is called “Dont Say Baby.” At the beginning of the baby shower, each guest is given a string with a pacifier on it, which he or she ties on his or her neck as a necklace. Throughout the course of the baby shower, nobody is allowed to say the word, “baby.” Whoever slips and says “baby,” risks losing their pacifier; any person who hears someone say the forbidden word is entitled to take their pacifier and add it to their necklace. Even when she opens up a newborn baby gift, no one can exclaim how neat the baby gift is. At the end of the baby shower, whoever collects the most pacifiers on their necklace is the winner of the game.

Another good classic activity is “Guess Mommys Belly Size.” For this game, you will need yarn or string, and a pair of scissors. Each guest proceeds to pull and cut the yarn or string to the size they believe that the mommys tummy is. After everyone has estimated the size of the mommy-to-bes stomach, measure the actual size of the belly, and cut the string or yarn to match that length. The person whose string is the closest in size to the string that was cut to mommys real tummy measurement is the winner.

A fun and amusing game that is always a hit in baby showers is a “Blindfolded Baby Food Race.” In this game, you will need a few volunteers to act as the “mommies” in this game, and matching pairs to act as “babies.” Mommies will be blindfolded and the babies will sit on their laps. When the clock starts, the blindfolded mommies have to feed the babies as quickly and efficiently as they can. To make the activity more pleasant for the “baby” volunteers, it is important to purchase yummy, fruit-flavored baby foods. Otherwise, your guests will be making funny faces as they try to gulp down peas and asparagus flavored puree. The mommy-and-baby team that finishes the fastest is the winning pair.

Games add fun, spirit, and laughs to your celebration that are sure to make lifetime memories that will never be forgotten. Be sure to get small gifts for the winners of the games with anticipation. The prizes that you buy for the event are completely up to you, depending on your shower theme and budget. Whatever the case may be, be sure to make the game-planning and prize-choosing process enjoyable and fun! The whole event, including games, food and opening all the unique baby gifts for the new little prince should be a memorable one for everyone.

Moses baskets offer and provide a secure, comfortable and cozy sleeping environment so your baby can sleep well. Moses baskets can be made from wicker, which is the most expensive, or maize, but the majority are constructed from palm. You will find that wicker baskets are the most robust. For your ease and comfort the baskets have handles so that you can move them around easily.

Usually, Moses baskets will include a fabric-covered hood and a complete set of moses baskets bedding. Many moses baskets have a neutral color scheme so you can choose in advance without knowing if you’re having a girl or a boy. Often, a foam mattress is already provided inside.

Moses baskets make a lovely newborn baby gift for expectant parents. Quite a few parents request a moses basket as a present for their newborn baby from parents and friends who join together to buy one. In addition, some families have moses baskets which they share amongst the family for each new baby. Sharing the outlay like this can help new parents out considerably.

Moses baskets may be placed straight onto the floor, or they may be placed at bed height through moses baskets stands.

Cons

Only used for the first three months or so: can be an expensive purchase if you buy new

Safety tip: Don’t forget to check when buying a Moses basket that its handles are sturdy and meet in the middle.

Pros

Very portable: easy to move around the house

Your baby may feel more secure in a Moses basket than a cot.

You should carry the basket with two hands, one under the basket supporting the baby and one holding the handles together. If that is a concern for you, simply make sure to move it only after taking your baby out.

Parents’ tip: Let your baby sleep in his Moses basket inside the cot. Then eventually slowly he will get used to sleeping there.

There are certain steps which should be taken to ensure the stability of relations and stronger ties among the members of a family. You should refrain all such practices which can create problems in your family life. In a family the kids live with their parents.
It’s a good idea to begin planning for your baby’s crib bedding even before your baby is born. To start with, don’t be misled by the argument that you cant plan for babys crib bedding without knowing if its going to be a girl or a boy. Its true parents want different patterns, colours and designs for girl and boy babies. Please dont worry about this because there are many bedding choices and even nursery color options available in the market which are fine for both girls and boys.

It is easy for parents ” especially those choosing cot bedding for the first time ” to worry about things that are of lesser importance than vital ones. Bear in mind that while we adults spend an average of eight hours per day, i.e. twenty-four hours, in bed, baby spends almost all of the twenty-four hours in bed!

The first thing to consider is Safety. We tend to forget the simple fact that baby can’t say if it feels uncomfortable. We parents must think ahead and make sure the baby bedding is safe from all aspects. For instance, it isn’t true that very soft beds are most comfortable for baby. The bedding should be slightly firm. Also, desist from piling the crib with cuddly toys and teddy bears and pillows. Adults may find them colorful and lovely but not baby. These can turn into hazards because baby could accidentally suffocate. Keep the cot clear of all pillows and soft toys!

Tucking baby into a heavy blanket to keep cold draughts away is equally foolish. The normal movement of a baby can bring such blankets over its face and cause baby to over heat.

Next, plan to keep your babys nursery stocked with bedding essentials. Its hard to talk exact numbers needed; But blankets and crib sheets sometimes have to be changed several times a day. Cotton sheets are best and I’ve already mentioned about using light blankets. A tip: check the thread count of the crib sheets you buy.

Our advice is to avoid plastic altogether including for baby comforters. Non-biodegradable material is a strict no-no for babys crib. These may possibly turn out to be allergic for babys delicate skin. Thats why in tropical countries babies always only wear cotton clothes. Our climate doesnt allow this so the next best thing is to use cotton as crib bedding.

Last but by no means the least, you must ensure the Durability of babys crib bedding. As you know, babys going to spend most of his time in bed. Apart from babys crib, plan his nursery well.

Lets get back once more to babys crib. To recap, lets picture baby lying comfortably on a soft but firm mattress covered with cotton crib sheet and tucked into a light yet warm blanket of pretty design ” not a drab pastel uni-color please! Babies don’t need a pillow and shouldn’t have one until they are over 12 months old. Similarly, babys crib wont be laden with soft toys of various shapes, sizes, and colors.

All done, you can be reassured that darling baby is enjoying a safe slumber.
